On May 24, 2026, the development of Essentia: War of Worlds reached a definitive turning point: we have successfully shaped, organized, and unified the game's entire core rulebook, while in the background, the lore of the universe has come to life through unique novellas for each hero. This milestone officially opens the gates for our very first, crucial alpha playtests. What Awaits You at the Edge of the Galaxy? Essentia: War of Worlds is an asymmetric strategy board game for 2-5 players, lasting 90-120 minutes (ages 12+), built around the dramatic conflict between pure cosmic energy (Essentia) and the all-consuming Dark Matter. The freshly finalized rulebook introduces the concept of Decades and the 5 strict phases of a player's turn: Regeneration: Where you draft cards from the shifting currents of the Timeline. Exploration: Where you expand the Galactic board by connecting new sectors. Expansion: Harvesting Essentia from adjacent sectors to activate your command technologies. Civilization: Where Heroes move into action to cleanse infected zones and trigger localized production. Destruction: The fatal closing of the turn, during which Dark Matter spreads relentlessly toward the geometry of the Targeted Civilization. The Price of Survival: Scoring or Sudden Death During the upcoming tests, we will be analyzing the balance of our new difficulty settings. Players can calibrate the cosmic threat from Easy all the way to the merciless Madness level. Victory at the end of the game is never guaranteed: if the Dark Matter tokens are completely depleted from the common pool during the Destruction phase, the game ends in Sudden Death (an immediate collective loss)—in which case the galaxy has fallen, and no final scoring takes place. In a normal game end, Survival Points (SP) determine the winner, where active technologies and hero presence yield positive points, while civilization infection inflicts heavy penalties. Faces Behind the Masks: The Hero Novellas To ensure a beating heart behind the cold mathematics of the mechanics, we have penned the background stories for the universe's heroes. Through these novellas, players can immerse themselves in the unique motivations of the civilizations, faction conflicts, and the deep mysteries of the Horizon before even picking up their starting hands.
